Ten Reasons I Didn’t Follow You Back on Twitter

Whenever I get a new Twitter follower, I always check them out. I don’t automatically follow everyone who follows me. I save up my e-mail notifications and make a few moments to look at them when I’m in between other tasks or need a break. I look at their most recent tweets, maybe check out their blog, see if I want to network with them in another way or add them to a list.

So if I don’t follow someone back, it’s because I’ve determined that doing so would not add any value to my Twitter experience (or they are clearly spam). Here are the most common reasons I don’t follow my followers:

Thoughts on Social Media For Writers

A while ago, I had my Twitter profile (@HaveANamaste) on my computer screen at my “day job,” and one of my coworkers spied it.

“You have a Twitter?” he asked in a tone that conveyed both disgust and amusement.
“Of course,” I told him. “I’m a freelancer.”“So? Why do you need a Twitter?” Given that this is someone who spends little time in front of a computer outside of work and refuses to join Facebook, it isn’t surprising that he would fail to see the importance of social media for someone who is, at least part-time, self employed. What is Next For Location-Based Social Applications?

Gowalla announced last week that they integrated FourSquare and Facebook Places’ APIs into their iPhone app, making it easy for users to check into FourSquare, Gowalla, Facebook, and even Twitter all at once.

Mashable claimed that the “ball is now in FourSquare’s court”, as FourSquare could simply ban Gowalla from accessing their API. However, I believe that this is a bad idea. In order to use Gowalla’s new integration, users will still have to sign up for a FourSquare account if they want to post on FourSquare. Instead of focusing on how they can prevent this integration, FourSquare should instead take a long, hard, look on why they didn’t do it first. Maybe they thought Gowalla wasn’t even in their realm of competition. Maybe they believed that their over 4 million users would never go over to Gowalla.

Should Office Workers be Banned from Social Networking Websites?

Social networking is slowly taking over the Internet. People are using these sites to do more than just connect to friends and those who have the same interests, they are now being used to establish business contacts and maintain these business relationships. But, with all the information that people display on their social networking site, such as pictures that show them having a night out with friends, people are wondering do social networking sites have a place in the business world? This is an excellent question that many company heads are now asking themselves and weighing the pros and cons of the issue, as well as having the rest of the world weigh in on this decision.
